The Press Hotel, Portland’s first boutique hotel, opened in May 2015, occupying the former building of the Portland Press Herald newspaper in downtown Portland. The hotel’s developer retained Blaze to create the logo, tagline, exterior signage and pre-opening print ads. We looked for unique ways to leverage the heritage of the building, ultimately concluding that it was simply “Beyond Words.”
Throughout the project, Blaze acted as a liaison between Marriott Hotels, the developer, the operator, the restaurateur, multiple marketing firms, designers and partners to ensure the brand was consistently and thoughtfully executed across all customer touch points.
The Press Hotel’s unique positioning as the rebirth of a historical and storied institution not only helped it claim space in a crowded regional market, but helped it gain international recognition. Among other accolades, Condé Nast’s Traveler named The Press Hotel to its 2016 Hot List as one of the best new hotels in the world.
